Tonight may be the last-ever Turkey Dance, but for these four characters, that is just the beginning...

This comedic romp through a local bee farm has a big heart to match the big laughs. Watch as mothers and daughters, farmers, and scientists come together in Mark Crawford’s funny and flirty play about life and love.

The action centers around Gail's farm, her failing beehives, and her longtime neighbour, Earl, who's looking for some simple companionship. Complications arise when Gail’s daughter Sarah, a turkey farmer recently separated from her husband, moves back home. Meanwhile Ben, a young, handsome researcher, has been given the run of the place to prepare his thesis on Gail’s bees. As the weeks go by, endless comic misadventures lead them all to learn one of life’s biggest lessons: It’s always important to take good care of your honey!

By one of Canada’s funniest and hottest young playwrights, The Birds and The Bees is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud at its hilarious observations on family, being an adult, and finding true love at any age.

Come for the laughs, stay for the life lessons.

A Canadian comedy that could be set in our own rural Cedar community, packed with laughs and four quirky characters … it was easy for me to fall in love with The Birds and The Bees.

The more I read the script and explored the characters with these four talented actors, the more depth I found. These characters are deeply relatable and authentic, voicing needs, desires, fears, and worries we all share. It’s no wonder this play is such a hit across Canada: it’s so much more than a fresh take on a sex comedy, it’s a meditation on found

family, new beginnings, and what’s worth holding on to … or letting go of … when life surprises you.

Mark Crawford remarked about the writing of this play, “The inspiration for Earl comes from looking at who the audience is in most theatres. Lots of them are over 50 and I wanted to write a play that dealt with sex with characters who are the same age […] The Birds and the Bees is interested in a re-awakening. I think this matters.”
