In a world where classic literature is all but banned, four of poetry's most enduring characters (Oedipus Rex, The Lady of Shalott, The Wife of Bath, Lenore) come together to fight for their right to exist.

"Poetry In Motion" touches on such timely topics as book-banning, cancel culture, and the enduring power of great art. The premise is whimsical and humourous, offering an anachronistic purgatory for these unlikely allies to co-exist. It was important for me that the audience really share the space with the actors, hence the intimate lobby setting where the action takes place. The characters have big feelings and opinions, but ultimately every individual must draw their own conclusions themselves. You don't have to agree with someone to see their side of things. We invite the audience to stay afterwards and continue the conversation with us -- after all, it's a play about how we engage with art, so why wouldn't we engage the audience with the artists?
Nanaimo Theatre Group has entered this play in the One Act Festival held in November at ECHO Players. We are presenting this play as an intimate setting in our lounge at the Bailey Studio. We have Festival Seating for up to 25 guests. This is something new we are trying, and hope you'll come and check it out!
