Play Reading night at Nanaimo Theatre Group
Laura Buechler will be presenting “The Pickle” by Carolyn Waye and Aaron Clifford, a comedy.
The Story:
Take a dash of I love Lucy, throw in some Arsenic and Old Lace, give it a modern twist and you've got the Pickle!
In this quippy 1950's romp, Hattie and Phillip work for the painfully incompetent George at Bridgewater Naturale, a health supplement company. Over the last few months George has been developing a top secret health product, Formula Z, for his boss, Mr. Bridgewater. Now Mr. Bridgewater wants to see the fruits of George’s labour and invites himself to town to evaluate the project. Tantalized by the thought of a promotion, George ropes Hattie, Phillip, and Phillip's wife Cora into hosting both dinner and his presentation. Tempted by the combination of finally finding out what George's mysterious Formula Z is and getting him promoted out of their branch, Hattie, Cora, and Phillip agree. But when George becomes 'incapacitated' right before the Bridgewaters arrive, the three must find a way to keep the evening cooking along while fending off nosy neighbours, strange electrical shorts, and a couple suspicious plates of pickled mushrooms. Everyone and everything seems bound and determined to sour their plans. It's a recipe for disaster ... what a pickle!
Come along for the hilarious roller coaster ride of this deliciously Canadian farce.
