Michael Armstrong
Director, Lead set builder, set painter
Michael is an actor, director, playwright, and theatre instructor with over 40 years of experience in theatre. He has a BA in Literature and History, a teaching diploma from SFU, and an MFA in Playwriting and Poetry. He is a member of the Playwright’s Guild of Canada and the author of a dozen plays. He has been a juror in Theatre BC’s Canadian Playwriting Competition numerous times. He has taught theatre skills for 25 years all over the province and adjudicated numerous theatre festivals, including Mainstage, BC’s provincial community theatre festival. In the past few years, he has appeared in a dozen productions with Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre in Victoria including Happy Days, All My Sons, The Drawer Boy, and Our Town; and directed their fall 2023 production of Misery. Other favourite roles include McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for Theatre Northwest and Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He recently directed his own play, Longing, for ECHO Players and is working on a musical, The Last Frontier, with his partner and composer, Beth DeVolder.
